How a Water / Methanol Injection System Can Increase Your Horsepower!

Anderson Ford Motorsport brings back MR FREEZE - Water / Methanol Injection System

The AFM MR. FREEZE is simplistic, yet effective. Being activated by boost and metered by jetting, MR. FREEZE is easily optimized. Mr. Freeze is an easy bolt-on for all centrifugal superchargers and turbochargers. In initial testing, AFM has documented up to as much as 90 additional rear wheel horsepower using 93 octane pump gas. With the proper tuning and 100 octane racing gas, MR. FREEZE was capable of an additional 115 rear wheel horsepower!

Requires tuning. Failure to re-tune the combination for the MR. FREEZE system will result in a loss of horsepower.

For the money, NOTHING on the market today can offer you the horsepower per dollar value of MR. FREEZE!

What makes Mr. Freeze work?

In internal combustion engines, water injection was used historically to increase the power output of military aviation engines for short durations such as dogfights or takeoff, however it has also been used in motor sport and notably in drag racing. in some applications significant performance gains can be obtained when water injection is used in conjunction with a supercharger, turbocharger and/or other modifications such as a more aggressive ignition timing.

In theory, water has a very high heat of vaporization. As the ambient temperature water is injected into the engine, heat is transferred from the hot cylinder head/ intake air into the water. This causes it to evaporate, cooling the intake charge. A cooler intake charge means it is denser (higher volumetric efficiency) and also will have a lower tendency to knock. However, the water will displace some air, negating the denser intake charge from the lower temperature at. Knocking is generally more of a problem in forced induction engines rather than naturally aspirated so this can be a useful aid in its prevention. On electronic ignition systems the ignition timing is generally retarded to prevent knock from occurring but with water injection it can be advanced closer to Maximum Brake Torque (MBT) timing for additional power.

Many water injection systems use a mixture of water and alcohol (often close to 50/50), The water provides the primary cooling effect due to its great density and high heat absorption properties. The alcohol is combustible, and also serves as an antifreeze for the water.
